"...if anyone makes the assistance of grace depend on the humility or obedience of man and does not agree that it is a gift of grace itself that we are obedient and humble, he contradicts the Apostle who says, "What have you that you did not receive?" (1 Cor. 4:7), and, "But by the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Cor. 15:10). (Council of Orange: Canon 6)

Calvin, the Bible, and the Western World

One of the sessions at today's Desiring God 2009 Conference, here is Doug Wilson speaking on "The Sacred Script in the Theater of God: Calvin, the Bible, and the Western World."

    God is God

    I am not!

    Psa 138:1 Of David. I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;
Psa 138:2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.
Psa 138:3 On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.
Psa 138:4 All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth,
Psa 138:5 and they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.
Psa 138:6 For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.
Psa 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.
Psa 138:8 The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

1Th 5:23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.

Rev 22:17 The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.

Doug Wilson is a very vocal and public proponent of the Federal Vision heresy, and frankly I'm appalled to see him prominently displayed here at Reformation Theology in an unqualified manner.

Is there an explanation for this tacit endorsement of a rank heretic?

    In Christ,

    Hi (Coram Deo),

Doug Wilson has been a featured speaker at both John Piper's recent Desiring God Conference and the National Ligonier Conference of R. C. Sproul this year.

Those whom I respect and who have studied Rev. Wilson's teaching in far more depth than me obviously feel that his teaching remains within the bounds of Christian orthodoxy.

Though not infallible by any means, scholars such as Dr. Sproul can usually identify a heretic at ten paces, especially concerning matters regarding justification by faith alone. I also would feel sure that the other speakers (at both conferences) would refuse to appear on the same platform with someone they viewed as an outright heretic.

There is nothing on the actual video posted with which I would disagree, and I determined this before posting it.

Me and my friend were arguing about an problem similar to this! Now I realize that I had been correct. lol! Thank you for that information you article.
