"...if anyone makes the assistance of grace depend on the humility or obedience of man and does not agree that it is a gift of grace itself that we are obedient and humble, he contradicts the Apostle who says, "What have you that you did not receive?" (1 Cor. 4:7), and, "But by the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Cor. 15:10). (Council of Orange: Canon 6)

We are a community of confessing believers who love the gospel of Jesus Christ, affirm the Biblical and Christ-exalting truths of the Reformation such as the five solas, the doctrines of grace, monergistic regeneration, and the redemptive historical approach to interpreting the Scriptures.

Dr. Roger Olson’s book “Against Calvinism” – A Review by Dr. James White

Dr. Roger Olson doesn't like to debate, and he doesn't like to defend his assertions, either, but that did not stop Dr. James White from reviewing his book "Against Calvinism."

A very troubling aspect of Olson's book is that he admits that even if God revealed Himself to be and to act, as Calvinists say He does, Olson would refuse to worship Him. That's an amazing thing for a professed Christian to say.

Here (below) is Dr. White's review.

The issue of the book isn't Calvinism, the issue is what kind of God this man wants to worship. As Dr. David Platt most famously put it "when we begin to twist and mold the Jesus of the Bible into the Jesus we desire to worship, we aren't really worshiping Christ at all."
It is dangerous to say I wont worship a God like the way reformed people depict God.
Thank you Dr. White for all you do! To God be the glory!

How is this comment any different than what I said as a non Christian when I said ''I refuse to believe in any god who would send someone to hell just because they didn't believe in Jesus Christ in the same way as you do''? We are obligated to Worship God as he reveals himself not as how we like. We submit and love will follow because of the Holy Spirit's working in our hearts.

Just a question, if the book by Dr. Olsen is such trash, why do you bother spending so much time on it? It just seems rather pointless.

    Lyndon,

for me, this is an excellent way to have my senses sharpened. I greatly appreciate these men of God and these articles in here. I refer you to these verses for consideration:

Php 4:9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me--practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

    ...

Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,
Heb 5:13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.
Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

    Lyndon,

It is important to understand, FROM THEIR OWN WORDS, what Classic Arminians say about themselves and about Reformed doctrine. This way when we engage them we can weigh their claims against the Bible. The best way to avoid misrepresenting someone elses position is to read their own words which is why we offer Olson's book in our store.

Further, there are many people out there who are searching and confused about what to believe, and others have been harmed by false doctrine, so we make this information available so others can benefit from it. By studying Olson and Horton's books, each position can be examined on their own merits based upon the writings of their advocates. Studying what Arminianism teaches helps us to not only understand Arminians but also helps us to better understand Reformed Theology, and thus weigh each against the authority of the Bible itself.

There are fellows who are very confused and deeply steeped in Pelagianism and frequently attempt to falsely mis-characterize the thoughts and beliefs of others, so as to create a straw man to rail against! It matters not what their stated view is, even in writing, he chooses to characterize others so as to falsely pigeon hole them into his created categories. He will even falsely characterize John Calvin's views on salvation as Gnostic, no matter what Calvin has written .
