"...if anyone makes the assistance of grace depend on the humility or obedience of man and does not agree that it is a gift of grace itself that we are obedient and humble, he contradicts the Apostle who says, "What have you that you did not receive?" (1 Cor. 4:7), and, "But by the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Cor. 15:10). (Council of Orange: Canon 6)

We are a community of confessing believers who love the gospel of Jesus Christ, affirm the Biblical and Christ-exalting truths of the Reformation such as the five solas, the doctrines of grace, monergistic regeneration, and the redemptive historical approach to interpreting the Scriptures.

Why Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel Produce So Many Calvinists

"There is no soul living who holds more firmly to the doctrines of grace than I do, and if any man asks me whether I am ashamed to be called a Calvinist, I answer - I wish to be called nothing but a Christian; but if you ask me, do I hold the doctrinal views which were held by John Calvin, I reply, I do in the main hold them, and rejoice to avow it." (C. H. Spurgeon, a Defense of Calvinism)

Why are so many Calvinists being produced in Calvary Chapel when Chuck Smith and Co. are openly against Calvinism?

Dr. James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries answers this question and more in this February 9, 2010 edition of The Dividing Line.

    Dr White...
I enjoyed listening to this audio. It made me appreciate your ability to analyze, debate and rebut intelligently. May the Lord continue using you
    Sincerely,

The greatest knowlege God ever gave to me was that of His Sovereignty in my life and that my Salvation had nothing to do with me and therefore is sure and none shall ever snatch me from His Hand.
I wonder how these men would explain Paul's conversion in light of man's "free will".
God shows His love for us in that while we were still His enemies Christ died for us....
and it is by Grace we are saved through faith which is not our own but a Gift from God lest anyone boast.
The greatest freedom I ever received from God was the knowlege that it wasn't about me and it wasn't up to me it is all about Him. Because He is Sovereign in my life I can take life head on without fear.

At 25 minutes that was great when he interrupted the guy for making more straw men!

Thanks for posting this! There are many whom I know who are Calvinists who in the past have a Calvary Chapel background so this is helpful.

I grew up in calvary chapel and respect the preachers there. While none deny predestination, many are scared of the effects of extreme Calvinism. I was given Dave Hunts book by my pastor and found it extremely lacking! I began listening to RC Sproul and Alistair Begg in college and was found that what I was taught in Calvary, verse by verse, was the same being taught by reformed preachers and still cannot understand why they are so appalled by reformed theology or Calvinism in general.

I believe Mr. White is right in saying they have allowed their past to affect their reading and understanding of the scripture. Many of the pastors come out of the hippi era of free love which I believe has effected them more than they care to admit.

All that being said, I don't think they are heretics and many do believe in the great sovereignty of God. I was never told to be quite or reprimanded for my thoughts and statements. Rather they were willing to discuss the issue. I know there are many in my church that hold reformed theology and are in leadership there. They still hold the word of God as the final authority and teach it plainly which is commendable.

James, You are probably one of my favorite apologetical teachers, Can't we agree to disagree sometimes. I remember John Macarthur at one time taught the same thing as these guys do in the 70's & 80's John has had a change in heart but you will agree that John is a great teacher, what if he held the same view that he once did would you have the same spirit towards him. I don't know but, think about that for a moment. this is a movement that God has used greatly have you shared any of the great points in other statements towards calvary churches like Verse by Verse teaching, ETC. when you debate other calvanists about baptism, you call it a friendly debate because they are calvanists too. Just doesn't sound right. There is a lot to talk about in systematic theology why keep putting labels on people "non calvanists" as if they are a lesser brethren,

Brotha I agree, with all you said, has James white responded back to you,I remember a debate he had with a oneness Pentecostal,I'm an ex.oneness, and James did a good job in that debate, but when it comes to Calvary chapel he 's different, yet Calvary chapels associated with allister begg, mark Driscoll, and John Macauthur, but never hear anything positive from him when it comes to Calvary chapel.

The thing that they are failing to grasp is that they have not looked at the Greek word for "all", which, when it is defined, does not mean all as in every man but it means a large number of people. IF what these men are saying is true, then explain Judas to me and explain how, in my extremely clear opinion, Judas was predestined to go to hell from the foundation of the world so that the scriptures would be fulfilled in terms of the Son of God dying for the sins of man. This view is by far the most valid and strongest point for double predestination. Judas did not have a choice, it was predestined for him to betray Jesus.

You are so wrong John Sampson. If Calvinisim is true, you can throw away your Bible and never witness again. Sad
